Week 4 · Sprint 1 Demo + Sprint 2 Launch
Today you demonstrate what you know. Then we look ahead.
Sprint 1 Demonstration
30 minutes. No notes, no AI, no references. Just what you know.
Answer the required question + choose 1 of 2. Handwritten, two sides of a page.
Required:
"Walk through your 5 Whys chain. At which 'why' did you find a design opportunity — something you could change about your environment or system rather than just 'try harder'?"
Choose 1 of 2:
Option A:
"On a scale of 1-10, how much progress did you actually make? Defend your rating with specific evidence. What would move you one point higher?"
Option B:
"Describe something you tried that didn't work. Why didn't it work? What did that failure teach you about your challenge or approach?"
Partner Review
Swap papers. Your partner types up your answers, AI generates discussion questions, then you talk.
The partner typing is intentional — you're forced to read carefully before discussing.
What Changes Now
You were the stakeholder. Complete knowledge. No interviews needed. You designed for yourself.
You'll solve a problem for your partner. Incomplete knowledge. You'll need to communicate, listen, and adapt your design.
The hardest part of Sprint 2 isn't building. It's truly understanding the problem from another person's point of view.
Groups will be assigned before our next class meeting. Please expect an email from me.
Looking Ahead
This Week
Bridge Reflection
What connected Sprint 1 to Sprint 2? What do you carry forward?
Goal Setting Part I — Preparation
Reflect on Sprint 1 and prepare your goals for Sprint 2.
Goal Setting Part II — Partner Goals
Set specific, measurable goals with your partner for Sprint 2.
Coming Up
Week 6: Discovery Documentation
Understand your partner's problem. Document assumptions and domain knowledge.
Week 7: Prototype + Build Log
Build a working prototype. Document your design rationale and get partner feedback.
Week 8: Human Value Statement
Articulate the human value your work creates. Partner evaluation wraps up Sprint 2.
The bridge reflection is due tomorrow. Start thinking about it now — while the demo is fresh.
